Pre-Season Games 4 & 5

The Oilers have finally reached the best part of the pre-season schedule, home and home dates with the "Red Team".

Game one will be played on Thursday, September 21 at the squashed beer can dome and game two will be played on Saturday, September 23 at the Rex.

Although it is pre-season, you can guarantee that the boys will be looking to send a message to our hated rivals to the south. The Oil are a pretty confident bunch right now and I predict that they will continue to have success, this may mean a 2-0 sweep of the series or a split, either way it will continue to build the chemestry in the locker room.

Lets sit back, kick up our feet, grab a brewski & catch the action on the radio or internet. These are going to be great games. Lets toast to a double A$$ kicking (hopefully).

Game 4 - The Oil battled hard to come back from a 2-0 defeceit in the first period. Markannen held the fort in the second and third periods, giving Shawn Horcoff the opportunity to score the game winner in OT for a 4-3 final score.

The goal scorers were, Pouliot, Thoresen, Stoll (unassisted) & Horcoff (unassisted), with the assists going to, Thoresen, Schremp & Almtorp.

The Oilers take on the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at Rexall in game 3 of the pre-season schedule.

The Oilers played another solid game earning themselves their third straight win of the pre-season, stretching their record to 3-0. The boys opened up a 3-0 lead and coasted to a 3-1 win over the visiting Coyotes.

The goal scorers were Schremp, Torres & Petersen, with the assists going to Hemsky (2), Sykora (2), Thoresen, & Sestito.

Pre-Season Game 2

The Oilers returned home to Rexall Place on the heals of their exciting win last night against the Phoenix Coyotes, they faced the Florida Panthers in the second game of the 2006-07 pre-season.

The Oilers pulled out a gritty 2-1 win which saw Smytty score the game winner on a beauty cross crease pass from Horcs in the third period.

I was able to be at this game with my son (Tyler 11), thanks to my good buddy Fernando not being able to use his tickets. So a BIG thanks goes out to NANDO for the tickets !Tyler and I were hoping to see the likes of Lupul, Sykora, Schremp, Mikhnov, Pouliot etc. Of this list only Schremp and Pouliot were dressed (thats pre-season for ya) but we had a great time watching some of the kids do their thing. Shremp was an animal all night, he made some unbelievable seeing eye cross ice passes (ala Chris Pronger) and played strong all over the ice, including some PP time. This guy is going to be a real gem, mark my words.

The goal scorers were Gilbert (1) & Smyth (1), with assists going to Schremp (1), Petterson (2), Horcoff (1) & Pisani (1).

PS: Since I brought up my buddy Fernando, first of all he is a member of this blog, but most importantly he is a "chaser" (autograph chaser) and has an unbelievable collection of autographed sports memorabelia which he sells on E-Bay. If you would like an autographed picture, lithograph, McFarlane figure, puck, bobble head, whatever, of your favorite athlete that is either an Oiler, Eskimo, or visiting athlete, check out his E-Bay auctions by clicking the following link. . .

You can also find a link to his E-Bay page in the Members Links section on the right side of the blog.

All of Fernando's graphs are guaranteed authentic (I am one of his biggest clients, I will post a photo to show some of the gems I have purchased from him) and if there is a certain athlete or anyone else that may be in Edmonton that you would be interested in contact Fernando through his E-Bay page.

Schremp in the show?

Is this the year that Rob Schremp finally cracks the Oilers lineup and gets his first shot in the show?

Rob has the skills, he just needed to mature a bit, so he was sent down for another year in the minors. Rob wanted to prove that he deserves to be in the "show"and after putting up a league-leading 57 goals and 145 points in only 57 games in the minors last year, the experts are saying that he did just that.

This guy is amazing, if he can keep his head on straight and is given a chance with the big club he will put up some big numbers.

I for one am hoping that he cracks the lineup, just imagine this potent offence with yet another sniper. Add Schremp's name to the list of Hemsky, Lupul, Sykora, Smyth, Pisani, Horcoff, Torres & Stoll (just to name a few) and you have a pretty damn good recipe for success.

Lets sit back and enjoy the pre-season "Schremp Show", cause it is only a preview of what is to come.

Click the link below to read the complete Oilers news release on Schremp. . .

A side note. . .

Due to the traffic jam that is the Oilers offence this year, the word is that there is only one slot open for Schremp, Pouliot, and Mikhnov on this years team (atleast to start the year). So the great pre-season debate begins, who will earn this spot?

What do you guys think?

This battle will be fun to watch as the pre-season comes to a close and we prepare for another Stanley Cup run.

2006-07 All Star Game

The 2006-07 NHL All Star Game will be held in Dallas and will be played on a weekend like it should be, sorry check that, it will played on a Tuesday & Wednesday, January 23 & 24, 2007.
You have to be kidding !
So much for enjoying All Star weekend. Gary Betman says the decision was made to play the game in the middle of the week to increase the exposure for the game and the city of Dallas during TV prime time.
On a more positive note, the Oilers should have a few guys in the game this year, so if this holds true, then who cares when it is being played.

Team 1260

Every Oilers fan should know about the best sports radio station known to man, the Team 1260 in Edmonton.

They provide the die hard sports fan with up to the minute coverage of your favorite sport. But deep down they are like the rest of us EdmOilersFan's. I for one can not wait for the hockey season to fire up again so that I can enjoy listening to the boys disecting everything Oilers.

So be sure to listen to them on the radio every chance you get or listen live on their website right now.

Click here to visit the Team 1260 website and be sure to sign up as a Teammate !

Post your comments, let us know what you think of the Team 1260. Spread the word, tell everyone you know about these boys.

Trade Rumours

What have you heard on trade rumours?

Who would you like to see the Oilers trade for or sign (free agents)?

Who would you like to see the Oilers get rid of (current roster)?

Lupul & Sykora

Joffrey Lupul & Petr Sykora will help the Oilers fill the nets this year, but will it make up for any weakness on the blue line?

If the Oilers can score an average of 3-4 goals per game, then Rolly and our current "D" will do just fine.

Pronger

The Pronger debate is still as hot as ever. . .

Why did he want out of Edmonton?

Why did he leave with only a pathetic explanation heard on the Team 1260, does he owe the fans that spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on his merchandise more?

Will the Oilers be able to make it to the promised land without the bonified horse on the back end?

Will the Amaheim Ducks now be the favorite in the west?

How do you feel about these questions and any others that you may have.

Don't get me wrong, I am fine with him leaving, I am happy with what we got in return, it's just that lingering feeling you get when someone punts you in the junk.

Share your thoughts on Pronger here.
